So boring and monotone that I feel bad for her She loves Japan and always talks about Japan in her lectures Her lectures are required Tons of reading, 100 pages a week every other week you turn in 3 analytic reviews of 3 articles (1 page per article) Pretty easy or my TA was an easy grader Those reviews are your grade, the rest is attendance and participation in lecture Can't skip readings or skim over readings in this class I never listened in lectures, always used it to do other homework because what she says is revelvant to the course but not to the articles Grade: 15% lecture attendance, 25% discussion, 60% homework(analytic reviews)

Winter 2025 - It not only taught me about motor sports, and how women developed in a traditionally male-dominated field in the last century, but also told me about the situation of women in fields other than motor sports in the last century (which I never knew before, I never knew that there were still so few female students in college in the 1980s). Seeing gender-related content on the Internet always makes me anxious and angry, but the instructors of this course always calm me down. Listening to these instructors makes me more tolerant of the views of groups I don’t understand. Also, the instructors invited women previously working in the racing community. That's super cool and she brought books she wrote. We watched a race in our last class. One of the instructors brings snacks for us every class! Would recommend this class to everyone.

I took 102 with her, but that was not an option on the scroll down menu... The class was interesting and she encouraged a lot of class discussion. However she never discusses the readings in class. Your whole grade depends on a paper that you write regarding each reading. Which is difficult and tedious. You have to read 200 pages a week and the writing comes out to 2 pages a week. Most people were lost and ended up not coming to class as it wasn't necessary for the papers.

Fall 2019 - This class and probably any class with Traweek is just not worth the hassle. She is insanely unclear in her expectations, or at least just doesn't prepare students for what she assigns. She practically just rambles about random things and very occasionally says something that relates to the class. That being said, the midterm is 5 single spaced pages (so 10 pages pretty much), each page is stand alone in which you have to answer 5 questions for each week's reading. Like I said, she barely goes over the readings if literally at all and honestly the questions just seem kinda arbitrary and aren't even applicable to some of the readings so you have to just bs. For the final we had to make 5 single spaced research proposals for things like earthquake preparedness and radiation exposure through feminist methods. Which forces you to just bs random things because you probably didn't learn much from her on how to do that. I can tell she is very smart I just don't think she is very good at translating what she knows to students in meaningful ways, and the assignments don't seem well thought out for students to learn anything. The weeks in between are pretty easy as in there aren't any other quizzes or anything, you just have to attend lecture. But even so, this class has been the most annoying midterm and final I've ever taken because they just don't make sense and she does nothing to prepare you. Also, she is very passive aggressive if you ever email her needing help. The handful of people in the class I've talked to also agree. Avoid this class if you can.

Spring 2020 - Professor Traweek was extremely clear about her expectations for our assignments and encouraged us to ask her clarifying questions. She was also happy to read over our work and give feedback! The lectures were more focused on themes than specific topics, and the readings could be long, but she really emphasized effort and improvement! 10 pages over a course of ten weeks (1 page of Analytical Reviews per week), no exams or papers.
