I enjoyed this class. Although the readings and material can be dense, the class is never too difficult as long as you do it. Bargheer understands his material well and is able to relay it well in lecture.

I really loved this class. I was hoping for an A, but even so I feel like I got a lot out of this class. I took this class as an Environmental Systems and Society Minor requirement, so I was really interested in the material. Mostly Soc majors in the class. Lots of people don't go to lectures, but there are a few pop quizzes in class. Discussion is mandatory, and my TA was pretty strict/harsh which is why I think I ended up with a B+.

A take-home exam, in-class midterm, and three quizzes.
Professor Bargheer often orchestrates the historical event in chronological order, and concord with the theorist.
not hard at all if you read.

Bargheer is a pretty chill professor. His midterm exam is pretty easy if you have done the readings and take notes on the main concepts of each reading. He also summarizes the main points of the readings in his lecture. His lecture can get a little stale at times, but since it was a morning class, it’s hard to get everyone’s attention. He does have pop quizzes, so try not to skip his lectures. His pop quizzes were generally based on the lecture slides, so it’s a good idea to review his slides before every lecture. The readings themselves are pretty convoluted and challenging to comprehend, but I had a good TA (I forgot his name) that helped me through the main points. All in all, you should take bargheer for soc 101. Solid professor overall!

Take Professor Bargheer's class. Your course grade is based on 20% discussion participation, 35% midterm (open book, take-home 3-4 page essay), and 45% final exam (open book, take-home 10-12 page essay). As long as you do the readings and watch his lectures, you'll get the grade you want. His lectures are engaging and the readings are interesting. He also gives you plenty of time to work on your midterm and final exams. I really enjoyed his class!

This class has a ton of reading, I think close to 100 pages a week of academic articles, some being more dense than others. I definitely enjoyed the readings from the first half of the class better than the second half, but overall they were decent reads. I highly recommend printing the readings or highlighting/underlining in someway online as you need quotes for the midterm and final (which are both take home essays) and that will make it both easier and quicker for you. The entire class is based on the midterm, final, and participation in discussion section. I think the reading was a lot of work and definitely a bit overwhelming if you do not stay on top of it but overall it wasn't a hard class. Just answer every question on the prompt for the midterm/final and use quotes from varied sources and you will be good to go!

This class has 2 assignments: midterm worth 35% of grade, final worth 45% of grade. The last 20% goes to participation in discussion. The TA I had graded by 5%'s. For ex. you could get a 90% or 95%, you could not get anything inbetween like a 91% or 93%. The class was somewhat interesting, but material wasnt presented in an interesting way. I'd rate the class a 3/5 because it was not incredibly memorable.

I really enjoyed taking this class, Bargheer is a wonderful professor! Weekly TA discussions (I had Andrew and am convinced he will forever be my favorite TA), a 6 page midterm paper and two 6 page final essays with 1-2 weeks to write them. Highly recommend :)

Wouldn’t recommend unless you’re fine with a lot of readings and 3 different essays. No homework or quizzes.
