SUPER effective professor! Hardinger's the best chem professor I've ever had so far. His lectures are really well organized and he explains the material really clearly. If you do all the materials he recommend you to do, you will do super well on the exams. Take him! I seriously doubt that you can find anyone else who's better.
Hardinger is a great teacher because unlike most apathetic professors at UCLA, he actually TEACHES students. Reading the textbook is optional because his notes are very detailed and informative. Here is the key to acing his exams: DO THE READER QUESTIONS CAREFULLY AND LOOK OVER THE ANSWERS. The exam questions are very similar to the ones in the reader. Especially for his briefly explain questions, the format of the answer in the reader will be the expected format of the answer on his exam. You probably don't know what I'm talking about right now but you'll see once you get the reader. His exams aren't particularly hard IF YOU DO THE QUESTIONS IN THE READER AND LOOK OVER THE ANSWERS.
Dr. H is a great professor! I hated the 20 series, and I am now in love with organic chemistry!!!! It was a fun but challenging class in terms of the materials we covered. But Dr. H is a very good lecturer. In fact, he is a good teacher (you know like he actually is there to teach so he does an awesome job!) His exams are challenging because they're long, but make sure you do the CFQs and PPs and you should be fine! Another thing, DONT FREAK ABOUT DURING THE EXAMS ABOUT TIME!!! He designes the test so that those who know it will do fine and finish... so if you've studied don't panick! Don't even read the book. I opened it once and I got an A in the class. Go to office hours even though they may seem very crowded, but you'll gain something and he always gives hints for the exams. Remember, everything is resonance! He makes a lot of jokes so even though they're not funny at all, they make the class bearable and even enjoyable if ur nerdy LIKE ME!
Professor Hardinger is a funny man who made lectures bearable. He definately knows his chemistry and tries to challenge you in several ways. There were three midterms and a final, although the third midterm and final were on the same day!! He exams are challenging but if you do the CFQ and PP along with his the OWLS...you should be ok. This is a difficult class, so dedicate much time to it.
Hardinger is an awesome professor who establishes a good foundation for any future ochem classes. He is extremely fair on exams & in grading and tries to make himself available anytime the students need him. He's the only professor I know that actually had the students choose his office hrs. Be sure to not only do the CFQs & PPs, but really understand them; this'll help you for his tests. I totally recommend going to office hrs even if you think you understand all the material. My only regret was not taking him for 30B.~ Conclusion: Take Hardinger if you can!!~ =)
Dr. H is not the worst O-Chem professor at UCLA but he's not the best either. Although he's very concerned about his students, his method of presenting the materials is not easily comprehend. His practice exams on his website are helpful but his exams are very tricky. Dont let the practice exams fool you. The TA can be a big help, especially Katie. She's awesome! The only thing I like about his class is his website.
