Quarter: Spring 2023
Grade: A

Professor Due is one of the best professors that I have taken so far at UCLA. I'm so glad that I've had a chance to get to know her this past quarter because she is so concerned with student learning and student success. She honestly wants everyone to get an A so she allows late work until the very last week without point deductions. I've learned a lot about Afrofuturism, especially in the context of short stories and films. I'll be actively looking out for more classes to take taught by Professor Due!

Ps: She is genuinely so sweet and really funny

Quarter: Fall 2022
Grade: A+

In this class, we watch several movies and short films as well as read some short stories of the Black horror sub-genre. In my personal opinion, the list of movies/stories we had to watch or read was quite high (I think it was around 30!) so it was honestly difficult to keep up with discussions/lectures, as all we do is talk about them. You are also graded on discussion participation. Assignments include reflections for every lecture (3-5 sentences), 6 blog posts (400 words each), 1 midterm (multiple choice + 2 essays), and 1 final project (either a 7-page essay or a short film). It was a lot more writing than I anticipated, but I learned a lot about common themes in Black horror and how meaningful many of these movies are.

Quarter: Spring 2020
Grade: A-

I learned new things about Afrofuturism and I learned about culture. The professor is very passionate about the topic, and knowledgeable. We had great class discussions and the films and music were insightful.

Quarter: Fall 2020
Grade: A+

- Class graded work: 6 blogposts, 1 midterm, 1 final project
- Midterm was multiple choice and 2 mini essays, and included content from the first half of the quarter. Given that you've read/watched everything, it's really easy.
- Blogposts were min. 400 words about anything discussed during the week it is due. Super simple.
- Final project was about anything you want, could be an essay or a self-directed film about Black Horror.

Professor Due is incredibly knowledgable about the material and is a really engaging lecturer. She is also very understanding and gave a lot of flexibility (bc of covid) but still expects a high level of work from students. This class was definitely the highlight of my quarter, take it if you get the chance.
