This was one of the first classes I took at UCLA, and I could not be more glad that this is the English class I chose.

In terms of the curriculum and workload, each Eng Comp 3 class has its own curriculum and "theme" depending on the professor. The theme for my class (at least when I took it) was nature. I'm not a huge humanities person, but I found this class to overall be pretty easy and interesting as well. We had multiple readings before every class (they varied pretty significantly in length, but I don't think I spent more than an hour doing the readings), a decent amount of journal entries throughout the year, and one (yes, ONE) 5-page essay throughout the entire quarter, which was our final essay. Based on what I've heard from other people who took different Eng Comp 3 classes, the workload is lighter, so I got super lucky.

In terms of Dr. Chichester herself, she is one of the nicest teachers I've ever met. She's extremely enthusiastic/passionate about what she teaches and is so so approachable. Her office hours were really helpful for me, and she sends out lots of messages via Canvas updating us on any changes to homework, etc, so she's a great communicator too. I wish I could take all of my English with her. She looooves participation and I'd strongly recommend going to her office hours. She's super personable so it's really easy to connect with her.

Overall 10/10 would take the class again.

The instructor is engaging during lectures, and her coursework is pertinent and compelling. Her assigned readings are globally interesting. Her assigned writing and work were also very reasonable, open-ended, and engaging.

I love Dr. Chichester! She is super sweet and honestly wants to work with you to succeed. The biggest recommendation I have is to stay on top of journals and out of class assignments. The course workload is pretty light, but if you don't do it until the last day, you're not going to finish before the due date. In that vein, keep an eye on the due times, as many of my classes assignments were due at weird hours like 11:59 am or 10 am. The only difficulty with Dr. Chichester is that her online feedback can be very vague, so make sure to attend office hours and your paper conference to get clarification. Your final paper is worth about 30% of your grade so get her feedback about what exactly she's looking for as sometimes it can be unclear.

Chichester is a great professor and really passionate about her work and how she teaches. You just really need to understand how she likes things to work fast in this class.
1. Be prepared in all of her classes to get randomly called on at least once. She’ll have assumed you have read or are reading what poem/literature we are going over in class so you always gotta be on your toes for this class
2. FOLLOW HER GUIDELINES FOR NUMBER OF LINES/PAGES. She will quite literally give you a 0 or make you resubmit as she is super strict about the number of pages and the number of lines you can have in a paragraph and how many spaces to indent by.
3. In class is honestly super laidback as she goes through the texts. The workload is really light in this class and all there are are journals about once a week and then a big due date at the end of the quarter so make sure you start early on the final assignments. I’ve taken two classes with her and both the final papers/journals/take home journals and reading responses have been due the Friday before finals week.
Chichester is a chiller and a great teacher just make sure you really listen to how she wants assignments.
Also I forgot to mention she doesn’t give letter grades until the end of the quarter and so it’s kind of a surprise what grade you get. She grades on a check minus, check, check plus grading scale.

Haven't taken EC3 with Prof. Chichester but I have her course reader in completely new condition. I bought her course reader last year but end up dropping her course for another major requirement, and now I've enrolled in an EC3 with another Prof. So I'm selling the course reader, which I haven't used one single time, at 70% of the price. If interested, please text me at ********** or e-mail me at *************
Btw, I had one class with Prof. Chichester and she was really approachable regarding the materials, and she is a really elegant lady who I would recommend to take the class with. I chose another Prof. only because her spots were taken really quickly and my first pass was pretty late.
