Gillespie has woke uncle energy and I loved every single lecture bc of it. Lectures were online/recorded so I watched all asynch but was still super engaged; his lectures are super super clear and easy to understand. The material is relevant, easy, and interesting!! The field trips to Sage Hill & the botanical garden were the highlights imo, super cute, good vibes. I ended up returning there on my own time to look at the plants again lol. Super easy midterm and final (fill in the blank kinda stuff), two online labs that took max 1 hour, and a final group presentation on an endangered species. This class was so cute, i would definitely take it again.
Easiest GE I've taken. There is a good deal of work required each week for the labs but the midterm and final were ridiculously easy. Professor Gillespie would almost always end lecture like 45 minutes early.
One of the easiest classes I've taken. Professor Gillespie is funny, entertaining and extremely passionate about Geography. Lectures are recorded, 40 minutes maximum. Class material is brief, easy and actually interesting. I'll definitely be looking to take more classes with him!!
Gillepsie is a king.
Class is super fun, Gillepsie writes a bunch of things on the chalkboard and lectures off of those, so sit near the front if you have vision issues like me. He's super loud (he sounds like a football coach in a high school movie) and I think he's pretty funny, so lectures are always fun to go to even though they're not necessary at all. He often finishes early and lets us leave, too.
Tests are super easy, all multiple choice, and most of the questions are common sense. He tells you exactly what's on them, too.
Labs are also fun and easy. You go on little trips sometimes like to the botanical garden, and the assignments are, like, fifth grade science level. It's great. The group project is a little annoying because group work always sucks, but it's very straightforward, just a powerpoint presentation on an endangered species.
Take this class if you want an easy and fun GE!
Liked this class. He's funny, has gains, and loud. Everyone went to his lectures. Something was different about him not using PowerPoint slides. Labs were alright, sometimes fun. I liked the outdoor tours. You don't need the textbook. Whats on his study guide is on the test pretty much. And he gives you all the answers to the study guide soooooo. Easy class. I was chilling. I had a conversation with him once on the outdoor tour, doesn't remember my name but he remembers my face. I feel special.

I LOVED THIS CLASS. It is such an easy and interesting lab credit and Prof. Gillespie is AWESOME. He wore flip-flops and dissed Trump basically every lecture. The class is big but he really gets everyone involved. He loves pointing at people so if you hate that sit near the back or the sides. The class was super easy to follow, the textbook could be found online too. I would say that the book is worth it because both the midterm and the final have questions that come only from the book, and not from the lecture. The midterm was super easy, the only hard part was drawing a map but you got like 3 weeks to practice. The final was more difficult, but in no wayyyy hard. But overall the reading was pretty unnecessary. The course was set up like this:
1/3 Midterm
1/3 Final
1/3 Lab (which was just participation and a group project)
Lab is long but its definetly required, my TA took a full 10% if you didn't show up for that week.
Overall, this class is amazing. Take Geog 5, and if you can with Prof. Gillespie.
SUCH A GREAT CLASS/GE! The professor is SO engaging! It makes the class so fun. He writes notes on a chalkboard so coming to class is important, but he is such a great professor, just go!
Labs are easy. There is a group project that is simple- it's creating a website on an endangered animal or plant.
tests are based off thorough study guides - so as long as you read through, you will do well on the midterm and final.
If you need an easy science GE (with lab, no less!) look no further. Gillespie is hilarious and engaging, and you'll actually learn something to boot.
I already had lab credit, but needed another GE and took it after reading the reviews here. What everyone else says is accurate: class is a cakewalk, as is lab (out early almost every week after doing a worksheet or watching a video).
He gives a study guide that's basically the exam for both the midterm and the final. Don't bother buying the textbook. He has textbook questions on the study guide, but there are a million Quizlets out there with the answers from past quarters.
Can't recommend this class enough.
