Unai is a great instructor and is very passionate about teaching the Basque language and culture. I took this class just for fun and did not regret it one bit. He makes slides explaining what will be taught that day, and gives everyone the opportunity to show that they have understood what is going on. If for whatever reason you don't understand what was taught, he does not mind explaining it to you either during class, through email, or during his office hours. Throughout the quarter he taught new, more complicated parts of the language, but would also have days to review everything that he had taught in SPAN 12A. If you're looking to fulfill the language requirement, I strongly suggest you take this class! The instructor genuinely cares about the students' learning and the class itself is not difficult—all you need to do is try your best and show that you understand the components of language (the different paradigms, the syntax, and, of course, the vocabulary).

Quarter: Spring 2020
Grade: A+

SPAN 12C mainly consisted of watching movies in Basque or about the Basque community (as homework) and learning more complicated parts of the language. The discussions on the movies are done in Basque (to the best of everyone's ability) and they were a great way to practice the Basque skills learned in SPAN 12A and SPAN 12B. You don't need to pay for access to any of the films because they're provided either on CCLE or Kanopy, and, for the language-learning part of the class, Unai shares the slides with everyone. Overall, this was a pretty fun and easy class.

Got a decent grade, but professor didn't update grades until way to late in the quarter. I was hoping to determine my grading scheme by week 9, but midterm grades were uploaded after that so I had no way of knowing how I was doing. Professor seemed to have a lot going on and so didn't provide much feedback.
Overall, I think it's just the way spanish courses are structured. But we just do group activities in class. Participation is kind of important, and graded a bit harsh.
