COURSE TAKEN: Postmodern Culture (Honors). Greg is easily one of the most engaging teachers on campus. He is insightful and hilarious, and you learn a lot without even knowing it. Class feels fun and open, while at the same time it's rigorous enough to significantly improve your writing. His postmodern culture class was challenging, and it articulated a lot of things I was curious about. Ever since I took it, it's been my favorite class. I highly recommend taking a class with Greg, he has standards that he'll encourage you to meet without stress, and you'll be amazed at your own capabilities. And he makes class a blast.

Fall 2024 - It's very obvious that Professor Rubinson really wants his students to succeed and improve on their writing. He gives students helpful feedback and notes on our writing so that we can improve as well. He gave us assignments where we could really have creative freedom with what we wrote about so that made things easier to be honest. The assignments (other than the final essay) didn't take too much time and were fairly easy. I thought the workload was fairly easy and doable other than the textbook readings. He expected us to spend 4+ hours reading every single day as if we don't have any other classes or a job. I guess that's expected from an English professor though and I got away with skimming most of it and just reading the essays anyways. My main complaint with Greg though was that what he taught was deeply influenced by his political views. I was too scared to write anything I thought he might disagree with or anything that might go against his political views for fear of a bad grade. Especially going to class after the 2024 election... it was an interesting experience. I have the same political views as him but I felt he excessively trashed the opposing party and it honestly made me uncomfortable at times. Overall, if you don't care about listening to him rant about politics this class was decently easy to take and I would recommend to those who wouldn't mind and just need their writing 1 requirement out of the way.

Winter 2019 - Hated this class, hated the professor more. He's basically what happens when that annoying kid in your philosophy class grows up. It's pretty evident from the first class you take with him that he loves being thought of as the quirky teacher, which basically just means he's willing to swear during class and throw in a few jokes. He also consistently interrupted students during the class, often to make fun of their points of view.

Greg is an excellent professor. I took his Honors 11W class, Postmodern Society and Culture (not listed on the drop-down list), and it was quite enjoyable. He is very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject, and the discussions he held in class with the students were always thought-provoking. The readings were shocking and strange and interesting, and the three papers I had to write for the quarter were really fun in that students were able to structure them in their own style. Participation is important, so throw out any and all ideas you have about the readings!

I took HC Postmodern Culture with Greg and it was an amazing experience. It was a lot of reading, but other than that not too much work. We had to write 3 papers. For two of the papers we wrote a rough draft and went over it with him. This was very helpful. For our other paper we read a rough draft of it aloud to the class. This was much less frighting than expected. It's such a small class that you know everyone really well. I highly recommend this class to anyone who needs a Writing II/English GE credit. It's a blast and super interesting.
